What's DeathSwap?

DeathSwap is a mini puzzle game, where you play as 2 cubes, a red and a blue one trying to solve the puzzles throughout the levels, with the goal of getting each cube to their specified spot to complete the levels.

But there's a twist

Unlike most puzzle games like this, where you have 2 controls for each one of the player, or in this case the cubes (wasd and arrow keys),  but here, to swap which cube you want to control there's a cost:

Each time you switch between cubes, the previous cube you were controlling and swapped out of dies.  and gets brought back to the start of the level, adding a new aspect to this genre of puzzle games.

This creates a possibility for a lot of engaging and unique puzzles, making it different then the very similair lava boy and water girls web browser game.

About

This is my first ever game i've built!
and it's a submission to the Mini Game Jam 72
(https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-72-adventure)

All the coding and assets were created by me, apart from the sound effects where i used the Bfxvr sound effect generator, which you can find here (https://www.bfxr.net/).

It's a relatively short game but i'll definitely be updating this after the jam!

Hello! Like we discussed on the jam discord I'll be playing Death Swap tomorrow on stream along with several other games from the Mini Jam #72 at 3:30pm EST. I'll be talking about any interesting design decisions as I play, and suggesting improvements if any come to mind. Please feel free to join me live, it'll be extra fun to chat together about your game while playing it :)

This is a pretty good concept, although I found that the levels didn't actually create any challenge. The only thing I had to do was swap when I hit a dead end. You also never really utilize the restart on death mechanic, the character goes back to the start, but it never really impacts the game, other than making you retrace your steps.

Also, it wasn't anything huge, but the switch prompt is displayed behind the background, so you can't actually see it. I already knew how to flip a switch, so it didn't really effect anything.

Overall you have a good mechanic, but the levels aren't really doing anything with it.

Yeah multiple people already told me that they find the levels quite easy, i just thought the mechanic would be a lot more tricky for people to pick up then it actually was, and for most people i've actually not hear the swap promp issue, may be an issue with the WebGL build or other stuff, either way i will definitely fix that and add some more levels after the jam. and i know the game is quite short, i didn't have time to make as much levels as i originally planned to because i wanted to make sure that all of the mechanichs and UI work properly,

either way thanks for the feedback! i'll definitely improve, and this is my first game i've ever created so i think for a first game made in 72hrs it's pretty okay

Definitely, I think it's great you were able to make a game like this for your first, probably should have started with that. Good luck with the developing, and of course the learning.
